Per Korail’s 2026 Chuseok schedule, general booking runs Sept 7–11 and unpaid reservations are auto-cancelled at Sept 15, 24:00, then reassigned to waitlist applicants in order.
That means a sold-out train is not the end — the seats given up by missed payments come back, and your position in the waitlist decides who gets them.

Chuseok 2026 KTX booking dates and the Sept 15 payment deadline
General booking for Chuseok 2026 runs Sept 7–11, 07:00–13:00 daily, and the payment window runs Sept 12 (Sat) 00:00 to Sept 15 (Tue) 24:00.
Chuseok falls on Friday, Sept 25, 2026, and special trains operate Sept 23–27, five days.
During the booking period you can only book through the Korail+ app and the dedicated web page — station counters do not sell holiday tickets in this window.
General booking is split by departure station and line, so each route opens on one day only.
Missing your line’s day means waiting for cancellations, so the day grid matters more than the payment deadline.
Before anything else, check which day your line opens — a Suseo departure is booked Sept 10 as KTX through Korail+, not the SRT app, and that single mix-up costs you the first queue.

A synchronized clock helps: connect at 06:59:59 so you are already in the queue when sales open at 07:00.
Never press F5 to refresh during the queue — your queue number is pushed to the back.
If your route has both KTX and regular trains, and the KTX day went badly, Sept 7 is a second chance on a slower train.
Korail integrated membership: what SRT members and foreigners must fix first
Only Korail integrated members can book 2026 holiday tickets, so existing SR (SRT) members must convert before their booking day.
Conversion follows three steps: open the SRT app or SR website, apply for integrated-membership conversion, then book on Korail+ — the SRT app itself cannot take holiday bookings.
From Sept 1, former SRT routes to and from Suseo are booked as KTX through Korail+ or the Korail website, not the SRT app.
Korail and SR merged their membership systems on July 14, 2026, and a Korail+ web trial page for login and membership checks was open Aug 24 (14:00) – Sept 2 and again Sept 5–6.
For foreigners, the picture is less certain: whether a foreign passport can be registered for a Korail integrated membership was not confirmed in sources reviewed, so test registration on the Korail+ app before Sept 7 — and note that Korail Talk (English) support for holiday booking is also unconfirmed.
Sold out? The waitlist trick and the 4 cancellation-check windows
You can request the waitlist on a sold-out train, and unpaid reservations auto-cancelled at Sept 15, 24:00 are reassigned to waitlist applicants in order.
Waitlist requests count together with your booking request limit, so place them the same day your line sells.
An SMS may not arrive when a seat is assigned to you — open Korail+ and check your reservation history directly.
The realistic check windows are four: Sept 16 morning (right after the unpaid auto-cancellations), after Sept 18 (the advance-booking payment deadline), 2–3 days before departure, and the day before.
If my KTX is sold out, I would join the waitlist the same day, book ITX-Saemaeul or Mugunghwa on Sept 7 as a backup, and set reminders for Sept 15 24:00, Sept 16 morning, Sept 18, and 2–3 days before departure — early queue position is what decides who gets the returned seats.
Every KTX sold out: ITX-Saemaeul, nearby stations, and transfers
When KTX is gone, the fallback order is: waitlist first, then ITX-Saemaeul or Mugunghwa (booked Sept 7), then a different departure or arrival station, then transfer itineraries.
Nearby stations work because the grid splits by departure point — Seoul, Yongsan, Suseo, and Gwangmyeong can serve the same region on different days.
Searching for 1–2 passengers instead of 4 together often finds scattered single seats.
Temporary holiday extra trains are added beyond the regular timetable; the exact 2026 schedule and train count had not been announced at the time of writing, so check the temporary-train filter on Korail+ closer to Sept 23.
From Sept 11, 15:00, remaining seats are sold through the Korail+ app, website, station counters, customer center, and ticket machines — the first point when counters resume, and non-members can buy there with immediate payment.
Payment limits, suspended discounts, and refund penalties
Holiday purchase limits are 12 tickets per person and 6 per transaction, with a 4-seat companion set counting as 4 tickets.
Discount products are suspended during the holiday window: no N card or internet special fares, no travel pass, no senior or standing seats, no infant-companion or KTX companion seats, and no KTX mileage accrual.
Refunds are penalized on a sliding schedule: a full refund only on the same day the ticket was issued, up to a 20% penalty before departure, 30–70% after departure, and nothing once the train’s arrival time has passed.
Buying from unofficial resale sites or SNS carries a high fraud risk and can lead to account suspension or boarding refusal — official channels only.
If your plans are still uncertain, book anyway and cancel the same day of issuance for a full refund, rather than missing the seat entirely.
