FAQ
How many subway stations are there in Seoul?
The Seoul Open Data station master lists 655 stations on 24 lines (counting each station once even where several lines meet). 101 of them are transfer stations.
How do I read the line names?
Numbered lines 1–9 are the Seoul Metro network; the others are named lines — AREX runs from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station, Shinbundang goes south from Gangnam, Gyeongui–Jungang crosses the city east–west along the Han, Suin–Bundang serves the south-east suburbs. Colours on this map are the official line colours you will see on signs.
Are the English names the same as on the signs?
Where a station has an official English name we use it (Hongik Univ., City Hall, Express Bus Terminal). For the rest we apply the government’s Revised Romanization of the Korean name, which is what the signage uses (Sadang, Sindorim, Jamsil).
