Seongsan Ilchulbong Opening Hours: 04:30–20:00 in Summer

Seongsan Ilchulbong Opening Hours: 04:30–20:00 in Summer

Seongsan Ilchulbong opens 04:30–20:00 in summer (May–Aug), 05:00–19:00 in Mar–Apr and Sep–Oct, and 06:00–18:00 in winter (Nov–Feb).
The last ticket is sold 1 hour before closing, so the usable window is shorter than the posted hours suggest.
This post gives the seasonal hours table, the first-Monday closure rule, admission fees, climb time, and what to do when the trail closes anyway.

Key facts — As of 2026-10-13

Season Hours Last ticket
Winter (Nov–Feb) 06:00–18:00 17:00
Spring & autumn (Mar–Apr, Sep–Oct) 05:00–19:00 18:00
Summer (May–Aug) 04:30–20:00 19:00

According to the official Visit Jeju seasonal table (October 13, 2026), Seongsan Ilchulbong opens 04:30–20:00 in May–Aug, 05:00–19:00 in Mar–Apr and Sep–Oct, and 06:00–18:00 in Nov–Feb.
Ticket sales stop 1 hour before closing, so arriving after that time means no entry that day.
Summer opens 3.5 hours wider than winter (15.5 h vs 12 h), so a late-afternoon visit only works in the warmer months.
When someone asks me about hours, I look at which month they travel first — the window changes three times a year, and the last-ticket time is 1 hour earlier than closing.

Closed on the First Monday of Every Month

The paid summit trail closes the first Monday of every month.
If that Monday falls on a public or substitute holiday, the closure moves to the next non-holiday day — it is not skipped.
The rule adds up to about 12 fixed closure days a year.
If your trip date is a first Monday, check the calendar for the shifted day before you plan the climb around it.

Admission Fees and Who Gets In Free

Admission is ₩5,000 for adults and ₩2,500 for youth, soldiers and children.
Groups of about 10 or more pay ₩4,000 for adults and ₩2,000 for youth and children — a 10+ group saves ₩1,000 per adult, about 20% off.
Jeju residents, visitors over 65 and disabled visitors enter free with documentation.
The official listing does not state whether the over-65 exemption applies to foreign passports, so ask at the ticket window with your passport in hand.

How Long the Climb Takes and What Your Ticket Covers

The paid summit trail is a stepped climb to the crater rim, about 20–40 minutes up and around 15 minutes down.
Reports differ on pace: the official Visit Jeju text says 30–40 minutes, while a July 2026 visitor report gives 20–25 minutes, so plan with the range.
The elevation is about 181–182 m, rated an easy climb, and the paths up and down are separated.

At the entrance, the left path is the free coastal walk toward Umutgae Beach and the right path is the paid summit trail — check the direction at the gate so you do not pay for what you meant to skip.
The round trip fits with margin even inside the shortest winter window (06:00–18:00), so a tight schedule is not a reason to skip it.

When the Trail Closes Anyway: Weather and Free Viewpoints

The summit trail can close at short notice in strong wind or heavy rain, and there is no published wind threshold.
Call the management office at +82 64-783-0959 on the morning of your visit to check the same-day status.
If the trail is closed, the classic side photo of the cone comes from Gwangchigi Beach or Seopjikoji, and both are free and outside the ticketed area.
A haenyeo (women divers) performance is held at 14:00 in the free coastal section, so a closure day still has something to watch.

Getting There: Address, Parking and the Practical Rules

The address is 284-12 Ilchul-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju, about 70 km / 1 hr 20 min by car from Jeju airport.
There is a free public parking lot with about 500 spaces, and the bus stop is Seongsan Ilchulbong-ipgu.
Bringing outside food onto the site is prohibited, so plan meals in Seongsan village before or after the climb.

The village nearby has sashimi and Jeju black pork restaurants, and lunch and dinner hours are busy, so a phone reservation helps.
If I had the choice, I would avoid the first Monday of the month and buy the ticket before the last-sale hour — then even the shortest winter window fits the climb with margin.
