- Real names only. Every idea is a given name that was in the yearly top 10 of Korean birth registrations (Namechart, built on the Supreme Court of Korea family-registration data) (50 names, 2008–2025). We never glue random syllables together, so the name sounds natural to Koreans.
- Sound. Your name is first written in Hangul (Emma → 엠마), then names that start with the same or a similar consonant and vowel score higher.
- Meaning. Each syllable gets the Hanja whose dictionary meaning best fits the traits you picked — and the commonly cited meaning of your English name, if we have it (Lucy is often said to mean “light”). Only characters marked for personal names or basic education in the Unicode Han database are used, with the meaning given there.
- Popularity breaks ties.

How Korean names work
- The family name comes first and is usually one syllable: 김 Kim, 이 Lee, 박 Park. The given name is usually two syllables: 김서연 is family name 김 + given name 서연.
- Parents often choose a Hanja for each syllable to give the name a meaning. Many syllables have several possible Hanja — 서 can be 瑞 “auspicious” or 書 “book” — so the same Hangul name can mean different things.
