Hallasan Hiking Reservation 2026: Booking Steps & Entry Times

Hallasan Hiking Reservation 2026: Booking Steps & Entry Times

Yes — hiking to Hallasan’s summit crater requires a reservation for the Seongpanak or Gwaneumsa trail, booked at visithalla.jeju.go.kr; reservations for a given month open at 09:00 on the first business day of the previous month.
That means October 2026 slots opened on September 1, and the two summit trails are the only routes that reach Baengnokdam at all.
This post covers the booking steps, the entry cutoff times for every trail, the cancellation and no-show rules, and how to book from outside Korea.

Hallasan Hiking Reservation — Which Trails Need One?

Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa are the only two Hallasan trails that reach the summit crater, and both require an advance reservation booked at visithalla.jeju.go.kr.
The other five trails — Eorimok, Yeongsil, Donnaeko, Seokguram, and Eoseungsaengak — can be used without any reservation, though Eorimok and Yeongsil stop short of the crater.

The reservation requirement covers the upper segments of the summit trails: the Azalea Field–Baengrokdam and Samgakbong–Baengrokdam sections, per the April 23, 2025 notice.
Under that notice, a booking covers up to 4 people per reservation, and each person can book once per week by hike date.
Once you finish the hike with QR code verification, the count resets — so someone who hikes on Monday can book again the next day.

If reaching Baengnokdam is your goal, the reservation is not optional; if you just want a day on the mountain, pick one of the five reservation-free trails and skip booking entirely.

How to Book Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa, Step by Step

Bookings happen online at visithalla.jeju.go.kr, the official Hallasan portal, and open at 09:00 on the first business day of the previous month.
A booking allows up to 4 people, and one person can hold one reservation per week.

  1. Go to visithalla.jeju.go.kr and open the reservation page.
  2. Pick your trail (Seongpanak or Gwaneumsa) and your date.
  3. Add up to 4 hikers and complete the booking.
  4. Wait for the QR code, delivered by KakaoTalk, SMS, or email.
  5. Bring one QR code per person plus a photo ID to the trail entrance.

Booking flow is nationality-neutral, so foreign visitors book the same way locals do; the QR works alongside a passport at the entrance check.
If you want a summit slot in October, the practical move is being on the site at 09:00 on the first business day of the prior month, because that is the maximum confirmed lead time — about one month.

When Do Reservations Open — and When Do October Slots Sell Out?

Reservations for a given month open at 09:00 on the first business day of the previous month; October 2026 bookings opened September 1.
Under the booking rule confirmed in the notice, reservations for a given month open on the first business day of the previous month at 09:00 — so October 2026 bookings opened September 1.

No official source states how far ahead peak-season slots actually sell out, so there is no published number for October.
The only live signal is the portal itself: the site shows per-course real-time status, and as of September 30, 2026 it showed Seongpanak operating normally while Gwaneumsa displayed ‘reservation unavailable’ slots.
October is the peak demand window — autumn foliage season — so treat the opening moment, not the date itself, as the thing to catch.

If your date shows unavailable, check the real-time status page rather than assuming the month is full; cancellations free up slots at no fixed schedule.

Entry and Descent Cutoff Times by Season

Summit trails cut off entry at 12:30 in summer (April–September) and 11:30 in winter (October–March), with Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa on the same schedule.
Entry opens at 05:00, and the cutoffs are set so hikers descend before sunset.

Trail Entry cutoff (winter Oct–Mar / summer Apr–Sep) Note
Seongpanak 11:30 / 12:30 Also 11:30 / 12:30 at the Azalea Field control point
Gwaneumsa 11:30 / 12:30 Same cutoff at the Samgakbong control station
Eorimok 12:00 / 15:00 Witseoreum station earlier: 13:00 winter / 14:00 summer
Yeongsil 12:00 / 15:00 At the climbing-entrance control station
Donnaeko 10:00 / 11:00 Earliest cutoff of all trails

Descent deadlines are separate and stricter: in summer, Dongneung Peak (the summit) is 14:30, the Azalea Field and Samgakbong 16:30, and earlier in winter.

Cancellations, No-Shows, and Weather Closures

You can cancel anytime before the reserved entry end time, using the same login method you booked with — the first no-show means a 3-month booking ban and the second means a full year.
Bookings made as a non-member, through Kakao, or through Naver are separate: a booking only appears when you log in the same way you made it.

After booking you cannot add companions or edit visitor information, so fix mistakes by cancelling and rebooking.
An ‘incomplete reservation’ is one where the visitor’s personal details were never filled in after booking — it does not hold a slot on its own.

If weather closes the trail, nothing transfers automatically: you cancel that day’s booking yourself and rebook another date.
Entry is restricted whenever heavy-rain, typhoon, or heavy-snow advisories are issued, which on Hallasan can happen with little warning.
Even if you are unsure you will make it, cancel before the entry end time — the ban costs you a season of bookings, and the cancel button costs nothing.

Booking Without a Korean ID — and What to Bring

The reservation flow is nationality-neutral: you book online like anyone else, and at the entrance one QR code per person plus a passport or ID gets you in.
The QR arrives by KakaoTalk, SMS, or email, so a foreign phone number or email address on the booking does the job.

Official guidance requires emergency food (candy, chocolate, salt) and spare clothes; in winter add winter clothes, spikes, gloves, and warm water.
There are no snack shops on the Seongpanak trail, so carry all food, water, rain gear, and poles from the start.
The Seongpanak parking lot is small and fills very early — buses 281 or 181 are the standard way in.

If you reach the summit, a summit certificate is available the same day: free through the JEJU IoT app with a same-day summit photo, or on paper for a card-paid fee at the trail-entrance kiosk.
Accidents get reported to 119 along with the trail-location sign numbers; camping and cooking are allowed only at the Gwaneumsa campsite.
Whether a separate English booking screen exists is not documented, so expect the one shared flow and take screenshots of each step before paying attention to anything else.
If I wanted a summit slot, I would be on the site at 09:00 on the first business day of the previous month, since that is the confirmed moment bookings open.
