Free Things to Do in Seoul This Weekend: 185 Free Events Oct 3-4

Seoul’s official events database lists well over a hundred free events for October 3-4, 2026, as of October 1.
At least five of them sit in Gwangjin-gu and disappear on or right after October 4, while a longer list of free exhibitions runs well past the weekend.
This post gives the deadline events first, then the exhibitions, the always-free outdoor spots, indoor fallback hours and a free day plan.

Free Things to Do in Seoul This Weekend: The Short Answer

Sejong Museum Gallery — Cho Deokrae solo show (B2), Sejong Univ. Through Oct 4, free
Sejong Museum Gallery — Kim Donggyu solo show (B1), Sejong Univ. Through Oct 4, free
Belgian Beer Weekend Korea 2026, Common Ground plaza Oct 2-5, entry free
Common Ground central popup, Gwangjin-gu Oct 2-5, free
SeMA ‘Perhaps, All of Us’, Korea Foundation Cultural Center 1F Through Oct 14, free

That count comes from the database listing itself; the exact entry-by-entry breakdown could not be re-checked line by line in this run.
What can be listed precisely are the free events in Gwangjin-gu that end on or right after October 4, and the free exhibitions running through or beyond it.
At least 17 of the listed events run past October 4, so a weekend visit is not your only chance for most of them.
October 3, 2026 is Gaecheonjeol (National Foundation Day), a public holiday, so some museums and palaces may open on a holiday schedule — check each venue’s page before you go.

Gwangjin-gu: What Ends on October 4

Five free events in Gwangjin-gu end on October 4 or October 5, and these are the ones that will not be there next weekend.
Both Sejong Museum Gallery solo shows — Cho Deokrae [The Journey of Circulation] (B2) and Kim Donggyu [Swik, Tak] (B1) at Sejong University — are free and both end October 4, 2026.
The Gwangjin-gu outdoor library [Achasan Forest and Rest] runs its final days October 1-4 at Achasan Eoullim Square.

Belgian Beer Weekend Korea 2026 and the Common Ground central popup close October 5; entry to the festival is free but drinks are paid, and drink prices were not listed — check the organiser’s page on the day.
Daily program times for the Achasan outdoor library were not confirmed, so look at the district library notice the morning you go.

Free Exhibitions That Keep Running After Oct 4

If your dates slip past this weekend, these free exhibitions are still open.
SeMA-run ‘Perhaps, All of Us’, a Canada exhibition at Korea Foundation Cultural Center 1F, is free and runs August 25 to October 14, 2026.
In Gangnam: Coreana Museum [Sansu/Landscape] (Sep 10-Nov 27), Gallery 508 ‘Japanese Pop Trio II’ (Sep 1-Oct 28), and the Gangnam Foundation show [A Personal Place: A Public Map] (through Oct 10) are all free.

In Gwanak: SNU Museum of Art ‘Everyday Images’ (Sep 11-Nov 22) and NamSeoul Museum of Art <Jo Sookjin: A Passing Place> (Jul 29-Nov 15) are free.
Long-running free programs for children include the Gangbuk [Everyday Stage] experiential exhibition and workshops (to Mar 31, 2027), Seoul Botanic Park [Bridging Spaces] (to May 16, 2027), and Seoul Grand Park’s <Cotton Candy Elephant> public art (to Nov 16).
For a no-Korean-needed art stop, the SeMA Canada show, the Jo Sookjin sculpture show and the SNU Museum show are all visual exhibitions with free admission and posted dates.

A Free Day Plan for October 3-4

One documented all-free day: morning at Bukchon Hanok Village plus Samcheong-dong and the National Folk Museum, afternoon in Seochon or along Cheonggyecheon, sunset at Hangang Park or Namsan Park.

  1. Start at Anguk Station Exit 2 around 9 a.m. and walk Bukchon’s lanes before the streets fill.
  2. Continue on foot to Samcheong-dong and the National Folk Museum grounds.
  3. After lunch, walk Seochon, or head to Cheonggyecheon for the 5.8 km stream path.
  4. Finish at a Hangang Park section or Namsan Park for the sunset view.

Every stop on this route is free and open to walk, so nothing on it needs a booking.
If I were building the weekend, I would anchor it on the two Sejong Museum shows and the Achasan outdoor library first.
My reason is simple: those are the ones that vanish on October 4, while the long-running exhibitions can wait for a later visit.
