Gimje Horizon Festival 2026: dates, venue and getting there
Per the Korea Tourism Organization’s English festival listing (read September 23, 2026), the Gimje Horizon Festival runs October 1–5, 2026 at 442 Byeokgolje-ro, Buryang-myeon, Gimje-si, Jeonbuk-do.
The venue, Byeokgolje, is a historic reservoir on the flat Gimje plains, and it is the ‘horizon’ the festival is named for.
Note that the address and phone number come from the KTO listing alone; the organiser homepage festival.gimje.go.kr is the place to confirm hours and any venue changes before you travel.

How to get there from Seoul
Seoul to the venue takes roughly 2.5–3 hours: a KTX to Iksan or Gimje Station, then a bus or taxi to Buryang-myeon.
There are two train options, and the route data puts them at about the same total time.

The train gets you to Gimje or Iksan, not to the reservoir — the final bus or taxi leg to Byeokgolje-ro is not yet verified against a fresh source.
That is why the estimate carries a range, and why I would add a 30-minute buffer on each side of it.
If you are going without a car, pick your station first, then look up the local bus or taxi cost from that station before booking the KTX.
Do I need tickets?
Past editions of the festival were free admission, but the 2026 ticket policy has not been confirmed — nothing to book yet, and nothing to assume either.
Previous years’ listings show free entry; the organiser page was the designated source for 2026 pricing, and it had not been read at the time of this check (September 23, 2026).

What to expect at Byeokgolje
The venue is Byeokgolje, a reservoir dating to the Baekje era on the flat Gimje plains, and past festivals have built the programme around that horizon.
Past editions featured drone and light shows over the reservoir, horizon-themed installations and photo spots, a night market, and rice-farming experiences (secondary sources, medium confidence).
Early October is rice harvest season in Jeonbuk, so the paddy fields around the venue should be at their most golden.
The 2026 day-by-day programme, including whether the drone show runs on your chosen date, is not yet published — the organiser site is where the schedule will land.
If a specific night show is your reason for going, confirm its date before fixing your train; otherwise any of the five days gives you the same landscape.
Best time to go and a half-day plan
Sunset is the time to be at Byeokgolje — the flat horizon against golden paddy fields is the signature view, and night lighting in past years ran after dark.
A day trip that ends at 4pm misses the whole point of the venue.
I would take a morning KTX to Gimje, walk the reservoir in the afternoon, and stay through sunset and whatever the evening programme turns out to be.
