Do I need a visa for Korea from Singapore? The 90-day rule and the K-ETA catch

No visa is needed for tourism, visits or transit of up to 90 days per entry, under the visa-waiver arrangement between Korea and Singapore.
The 90-day cap counts each visit separately, so a two-week holiday sits well inside it.
What is not settled by the waiver alone is K-ETA, Korea’s online pre-screening step, and that is checked on the official portal k-eta.go.kr before you book.

K-ETA status for Singapore passports has changed before, so the portal is the only place where the current rule for 2026 shows up.
If your trip is a short holiday, the whole visa question comes down to one check on that site.

Tourism, visit or transit, under 90 days No visa required under the mutual waiver — check the K-ETA requirement on k-eta.go.kr before booking
Staying longer than 90 days Apply in person at a Korea Immigration Service office before the 90 days expire
Returning to Korea soon after a long visit (60+ days) Expect extra questions or possible refusal — avoid back-to-back long stays
Re-entering Singapore after the trip Submit the free SG Arrival Card within 3 days including the arrival date, via ICA or the MyICA app
Passport expiring soon Renew before flying — 6+ months validity is the standard recommendation, and Singapore-bound flights refuse boarding on under-6-months passports from January 30, 2026

Korea K-ETA for Singapore passport — how to check and apply

K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) is applied for online at www.k-eta.go.kr or in the official mobile app — no embassy visit involved.

  1. On k-eta.go.kr, first check whether your nationality is on the K-ETA-required list.
  2. If it is listed, apply on the site or in the app.
  3. Pay the application fee online; it is a screening fee and is not refunded even if the application is denied — the current amount in KRW is shown at payment on the official portal.
  4. Submit well before boarding: applications are typically processed within 72 hours, and peak seasons can take longer.
  5. Once approved, the K-ETA is valid for 2 years and covers multiple trips within that window.

The 2-year validity is the reason many repeat travelers apply once and reuse it — 24 months at 90 days per visit means the same approval can cover several trips.
If your nationality is not on the K-ETA list, the site routes you to a visa application at a Korean embassy or consulate instead.

What happens when you land in Korea

There is no paper arrival card to fill in on the Korean side — the process runs on electronic declaration.
K-ETA or visa-free status is pre-screening only — the officer at the checkpoint makes the final call on entry and on how many days you actually get.
So do not treat 90 days as guaranteed; treat it as the maximum the waiver allows.
If you want to stay beyond the initial period, an extension requires an in-person application at a Korea Immigration Service office before your permitted stay expires.

Getting back into Singapore after Korea

Before flying home, submit the SG Arrival Card (SGAC) — it is free on the ICA website or the MyICA Mobile app.
Submission opens within 3 days including the arrival date, so for a January 25 landing you can submit from January 22.
There is no paper form, and commercial sites charging a fee are not affiliated with ICA — paying one can also mean missing the 3-day window.

From January 30, 2026, Singapore’s No-Boarding Directive lets airlines refuse boarding to passengers who did not submit the SGAC, are entry-banned or flagged high-risk, or hold passports with under 6 months validity.
Entry into Singapore is granted as an electronic Visit Pass (e-Pass) emailed after clearance — check the last permitted stay date in it instead of assuming a set number of days.
Extending a stay in Singapore requires an online Short-Term Visit Pass application, and approval is not automatic.

Documents checklist for the airport

For the Korea-bound leg, have a passport with 6+ months validity (the standard recommendation), a return or onward ticket, and proof of funds for the stay.
Korea does not appear to strictly enforce a 6-month validity rule on arrival, but airlines flying you there may refuse boarding if the passport expires within your stay — airline rules can differ from immigration rules, so check your carrier.
For the return leg, a submitted SGAC is required from January 30, 2026, and Singapore-bound boarding is refused on passports under 6 months validity.
Add K-ETA approval to the list only if k-eta.go.kr shows it as required for your nationality on the day you check.

  1. Passport, 6+ months validity recommended for both legs
  2. Return or onward ticket and proof of funds
  3. SGAC submitted within 3 days of the return arrival date
  4. K-ETA approval, if the official list requires it

Repeat trips, transit and longer stays

A 2-year K-ETA covers multiple 90-day visits, so repeated short holidays within that window need no new application.
The 90-day waiver also covers transit, so a connecting stop through Korea fits the same rule.
Re-entering Korea shortly after a long visit — roughly 60 or more days — can trigger extra questions or refusal on suspicion of using visa-free entries as a substitute for living there.

If Korea is becoming a regular long stay, a proper visa through a Korean embassy or consulate is the route for travelers not covered by visa-free entry or K-ETA.
I would apply for K-ETA a week out rather than 72 hours before — the fee is small, but a peak-season processing delay could cost me the flight itself.
Keep each visit clearly a visit, and the waiver keeps working as designed.

Dates to put on the calendar

  • Apply for K-ETA at least 72 hours before boarding on the official k-eta.go.kr site or app — earlier in peak season, since review can take longer
  • Within 3 days including the return arrival date: submit the free SG Arrival Card via ICA or the MyICA app
  • January 30, 2026: No-Boarding Directive starts — no SGAC or a passport under 6 months validity means no boarding to Singapore
  • September 2026: Chuseok peak-season entry guidance is live — expect slower K-ETA processing and longer checkpoint queues

FAQ

Q. How long can Singapore passport holders stay in Korea without a visa?

Up to 90 days per visit for tourism, visits or transit, under the mutual visa-waiver arrangement. The officer at the checkpoint decides the actual granted stay.

Q. Is K-ETA required for Singapore passport holders in 2026?

Check the nationality list on k-eta.go.kr before booking — the requirement has flipped for Singapore before, and only the official portal shows the current status.

Q. How early should K-ETA be submitted before a flight to Korea?

Applications are typically processed within 72 hours, and peak seasons take longer — submit well before boarding, not on departure day.

Q. Do I need to fill anything on arrival in Korea?

There is no paper arrival card. The Q-Code health registration is optional and just speeds up screening.

Q. What do I need to re-enter Singapore after the Korea trip?

A free SG Arrival Card submitted within 3 days including the arrival date, via the ICA site or MyICA app — never through a paid third-party site.

Check k-eta.go.kr first, then book — and renew the passport early if it is under 6 months.
