Where Chipotle Gangnam is and how it runs
The first address is 423 Gangnam-daero in Seocho-gu, a flagship commercial block near Gangnam Station chosen for heavy foot traffic.
The store seats 96 people around an open kitchen, so the line moves past the counter where ingredients are prepped and cooked in view.
The crew trained on-site for about a month before opening, following the same prep and cooking methods used in US stores.
This location operates through S&C Restaurants Holdings, a joint venture between Chipotle and Sangmidang Holdings, the former SPC Group, through its affiliate Big Bite Company.
It is the first time Chipotle has entered a market through a joint venture, and all Korean stores stay 100% company-owned with no franchising.
For practical details like the closest subway exit, walking time, or business hours, check Chipotle Korea’s official channels before you go, since reporting so far has focused on the opening itself.

How ordering works — 54 ingredients, 6 proteins
The ordering system is identical to the US: move along the counter and pick each component as it is assembled in front of you.
Fifty-four ingredients are chopped and prepped fresh in the store daily, and there are six proteins to choose from — chicken, steak, barbacoa, carnitas, sofritas (tofu), and veggie.
Five base formats are available: burrito, burrito bowl, tacos, quesadilla, and salad, with the quesadilla offered as a base in Korea.
Rice, beans, salsa, cheese, sour cream, fajita veggies, and romaine are included, while guacamole and queso blanco cost extra.
There is no special menu for Korean tastes.
Chipotle’s culinary lead put it directly before opening: the taste and experience are meant to match the US, and the brand philosophy favors originality over localization.
For a first visit, the practical takeaway is that the price is set by the protein alone, so the format choice — bowl, burrito, or salad — costs the same.

Chipotle Korea prices — protein decides, format does not
A chicken, veggie, or sofritas order is 12,800 KRW, carnitas is 13,800 KRW, and steak or barbacoa is 14,800 KRW.
Steak costs 2,000 KRW more than chicken — about 16% — for the same format.
Because the price depends only on the protein, a burrito, bowl, taco set, or salad with the same filling lands on the same number, which makes budgeting simple: pick the protein first and the price is fixed.
Delivery through the Baemin app launched alongside the store, and Korean-language orders rose 42.6% in the opening week.
Opening week also produced the waits covered in the next section, and visitors posting reviews noted the taste matched US locations.

Is the 2–3 hour wait worth it?
During opening week the queue stretched past 100 meters and 2–3 hour waits were reported as the norm, with visitors writing that a 2–3 hour wait was basic and that the taste was the same as US locations.
Those numbers date from the first week of September 2026; waits beyond that week have not been reported yet, and visiting a few months later may look very different.
Two more Korean stores are planned by the end of 2026, the second at the Shinsegae Gangnam branch, and a first Singapore store follows in 2027 — about a year after the Seoul opening.
That takes Korea from one store to three within the opening year, a 3x footprint, so the Gangnam line is unlikely to stay the only option.
For travelers, the comparison points already in Seoul are Korean-Mexican chains like Cuchara and TacoBus, and Chipotle’s stated goal is to make build-your-own ordering a routine dining choice rather than a one-off novelty.

Where the ingredients come from
Most ingredients are sourced inside Korea — cilantro, jalapeño, onion, and rice come from local suppliers, some produce is contract-grown with Korean farms, and dairy including sour cream is supplied daily by Maeil Dairies.
Sangmidang plans to produce tortillas and other components itself in the future.
The no-artificial-colors, no-preservatives policy carries over from the US, and the operator said the biggest effort went into building a supply chain that meets Chipotle standards, not the interior.
What this means for a visitor is straightforward: the same 54-ingredient menu is being fed by a largely Korean supply chain, and the second and third stores will draw on the same system as they open through the end of 2026.

Practical notes before going
- Budget by protein: 12,800 KRW for chicken, veggie, or sofritas, 14,800 KRW for steak or barbacoa, regardless of bowl or burrito.
- Go hungry before the counter line, not after — the format is built around picking each ingredient in person.
- If the Gangnam line is long, the Shinsegae Gangnam store opening by end of 2026 is the closest alternative.
