Korail Pass seat reservation: what changes during Chuseok 2026
Chuseok 2026 runs five days, from September 23 to September 27.
Korail split general booking across five days, September 7 to 11, instead of opening everything at once.
Each day covers a different set of trains: September 7 for all regular trains (ITX-Saemaeul, Mugunghwa), September 8 for KTX on the Gyeongjeon, Gangneung, Donghae, Jungang, and Jungbu-naeryuk lines, September 9 for Honam and Jeolla KTX, September 10 for KTX departing or arriving at Suseo, and September 11 for Gyeongbu-line KTX.
Some routes appear on two days — Seoul to Dongdaegu KTX is bookable on both September 8 and September 11 — so a sold-out first day is not the end.
Booking happens only online, through the Korail+ app and the dedicated holiday booking page; station counters are suspended during the window.
Once in, a general reservation must be completed within 3 minutes.
Payment opens at midnight on September 12 and general bookings must be paid by September 15, or the seat is released to waitlist applicants.
There is a limit of 12 tickets per person in total, with at most 6 one-way per transaction.

Does the Korail Pass guarantee a seat during Chuseok?
No — the pass covers the fare, not the seat.
On Chuseok trains, a separate seat reservation is required for every train you board, and reservations are free for pass holders.
Popular routes such as Seoul–Busan and Seoul–Gyeongju sell out weeks ahead, even for travelers whose fare is already paid.
A pass holder who misses the booking window is left checking daily for cancellations or standing on a sold-out train.
The pass is tied to your passport, so carry it while riding — conductors check it onboard or at the platform.
The Seoul–Busan KTX one-way fare is about ₩60,000, so a round trip runs about ₩120,000; that is the baseline a multi-day pass has to beat on a multi-city itinerary.

When can foreign non-residents book?
Foreign non-resident accounts can book from September 11, 2026 — four days after local accounts opened on September 7.
By then Gyeongbu-line KTX seats have already been open to locals since that same morning’s route-based schedule, so the practical move is to have your account and routes ready and enter the page right at the opening minute.
The holiday page uses a waiting-queue system, and refreshing (F5) resets your queue number, so enter once and wait.
A Korail Pass is bought in advance as a voucher through the Korail global site or resellers like Klook, then activated via the KorailTalk app or a station foreigner help desk — activation sets the start date, so do not activate before your actual first travel day.

KTX sold out? Cancellation watch and SRT fallback
Two fallbacks work when everything is gone.
First, the cancellation watch: tickets unpaid by the September 15 deadline auto-cancel and are assigned sequentially to waitlist applicants, so checking the booking page daily around that date turns up real seats.
Second, switch operators: SRT remains an alternative, and travelers who miss KTX also fall back to intercity buses.
One thing to keep straight: the Korail Pass does not cover SRT or city subways — Korail trains only.
If you also need the Seoul or Busan metro, the 2026 Korail Pass Plus adds a NAMANE prepaid transit card for about ₩8,000 on top of the standard pass, bought at NAMANE kiosks or the official Pass+ site.
Avoid resellers outside official channels — buying a scalped ticket risks losing the full amount, and Korail runs undercover checks and a reporting desk against illegal resales.
