KORAIL-listed KTX service from Seoul Station to Gyeongju (Singyeongju) Station takes about 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes one way, depending on the number of stops.

Get off at Singyeongju Station — not ‘Gyeongju’
Before anything else, check which station the booking app actually books you into: the KTX stop for Gyeongju is Singyeongju Station, and there is no downtown ‘Gyeongju’ KTX station.
The stop was renamed Singyeongju Station (formerly written ‘Shin-Gyeongju’) in December 2023, and some apps still surface it only when you search ‘Gyeongju’ — so verify the station name before paying.
Singyeongju Station sits about 12km from downtown Gyeongju, with no walkable attractions at or near it.
That 12km gap is the reason this station question matters more than the train schedule itself.
Get off anywhere wrong and you add a taxi leg before your day has started, or worse, book a ticket to a station that serves a different line entirely.
As of the 2026 season, Singyeongju Station — the KTX stop for Gyeongju, renamed in Dec 2023 — sits about 12km from downtown sights, with buses 700/710/711 taking about 20 minutes and a taxi about 15.
If your booking app shows a ‘Gyeongju’ option on the KTX results, treat it as the naming trap and confirm it says Singyeongju on the ticket before paying.
Singyeongju Station to downtown and Bulguksa
Buses 700, 710, and 711 run from Singyeongju Station to the Hwangnidan-gil and Daereungwon area in about 20 minutes; a taxi covers the same leg in about 15 minutes.
Confirm the taxi meter is on before boarding — the ride is short, but you want the fare calculated properly.
Once downtown, Bulguksa and Seokguram sit on the outskirts, reached by bus 700 or a taxi from the center.
Bulguksa and Seokguram together take about half a day, with Seokguram a separate uphill leg from Bulksa, continuing the same bus or taxi ride onward.
Door to door from Seoul Station, that puts the total at about 2h45m to 3h to reach Bulguksa itself.
What is not yet confirmed is the exact bus 700 fare and interval — only the route number is supported by sources, and sources also differ on whether 700/710/711 all stop at the Bulguksa entrance.

A day trip schedule that actually works
If I had one day, I’d take the ~06:00 train, spend the morning at Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae, set the afternoon aside for Bulguksa and Seokguram, then finish with the illuminated Donggung and Wolji after 18:30 before catching a late KTX back.
The reason the order matters is simple: Bulguksa (southeast) and Donggung & Wolji (center) lie in different directions, so seeing everything in the wrong order can turn the trip into a day of transit.
- ~06:00 — depart Seoul Station on an early KTX.
- ~08:15 — arrive Singyeongju, taxi toward the sights.
- Morning — Daereungwon tomb park and Cheomseongdae observatory.
- Midday — ssambap lunch near the royal tombs, then coffee on Hwangnidan-gil.
- Afternoon — bus 700 or taxi to Bulguksa, then Seokguram (half a day for the pair).
- After 18:30 — the illuminated Donggung and Wolji, a short walk from downtown.
- Evening — late KTX back to Seoul.
Hwangnidan-gil, Daereungwon, and Cheomseongdae are connected on foot, so the downtown half of the day needs no transport at all.
Bulguksa and Seokguram are the only legs that need bus or taxi, which is why front-loading them around the fixed train times works better than leaving them loose.

That gap makes a Busan-plus-Gyeongju combination trip easier to build than a Seoul-based day trip: from Busan you can reach Gyeongju in the time it takes to cross Seoul by subway.
