How this board works

Every day (last count 2026-10-11) we look up 49 Korean foods — everyday meals, street food, desserts and the newest crazes. Searches are Naver’s monthly search counts in Korea (PC and mobile), from Naver’s keyword tool. News counts Korean news stories in Google News whose headline names the food; for the busiest foods Google News returns only the latest 100 stories, so their month is shown as “busy all month” instead of a weekly comparison. World interest is English Wikipedia page views over 30 days, people only. “Why it’s hot” quotes the headlines themselves — translated into English where the numbers survive the translation, with the Korean original underneath. We do not add claims of our own. New trends are names picked out of Korean headlines that call something a craze, sell-out or open-run, kept only when Naver shows at least 2,000 searches a month. Restaurants come from Seoul’s official English restaurant list (Visit Seoul); appearing there is not a recommendation.

How this page works

Each food gets up to four points out of 100, the leader in each scoring 100: Naver monthly searches in Korea (log scale), Korean news stories in Google News whose headline names the food this week, this week against its average week, and the change in Naver searches over a week. The heat score is their average, rescaled so No.1 = 100. ‘Why it’s hot’ quotes the headlines; restaurants come from Seoul’s official English restaurant list and are not a ranking. The page is rebuilt twice a day (around 09:15 and 21:15 Korea time) and republished only when the numbers change.

What changed in the update of 2026-10-11

  • Korean fried chicken (치킨) ranked first of 49 Korean foods on the heat score on 2026-10-11.
  • Gimbap (김밥) had the most Naver searches in Korea among them: 286,000 a month.

FAQ

What food is trending in Korea right now?

On this board, Korean fried chicken (치킨) is No.1 (heat 100) as of 2026-10-11, followed by Kalguksu (칼국수) and Jjajangmyeon (짜장면). Open a row to see the Korean headlines behind it.

What are Koreans searching for most?

Gimbap (김밥) has the most monthly searches on Naver among the foods we track: 286,000, then Pizza Sulgi (249,400).

What is the newest food trend in Korea?

New on the board: Chapssaltteok (찹쌀떡), Pizza Sulgi (피자설기), Fruit Chapssaltteok (과일찹쌀떡), Skku (스꾸). They were picked up from Korean headlines that call them a craze, sell-out or open-run, and kept only if at least 2,000 people a month search for them on Naver.

How is the heat score calculated?

Each food gets up to four points, each out of 100 against the leader: Search = Naver monthly searches (on a log scale, so everyday foods do not swamp new trends); News = Korean news stories that mention it this week; Rising = this week’s stories against its average week over the past month; Search rise = the change in Naver searches over a week (once we have a week of counts). The heat score is their average, rescaled so No.1 = 100.

Where can I eat these foods in Seoul?

Open a row. If Seoul’s official English restaurant list has places that serve it, we list a few with their nearest subway exit — it is a list, not a ranking. If not, we link the Korean articles that say where to find it, or give the Korean name to search on Naver Map or Kakao Map.

Why is this different from a “best Korean food” list?

Because it moves. It is recounted every day from what Koreans search for and what Korean media write about, so seasonal foods (hotteok and bungeo-ppang in winter, bingsu in summer) and sudden crazes rise and fall.
